Remember SmartMedia cards? Before SD took over, e Remember SmartMedia cards?

Before SD took over, early digital cameras used these ultra-thin black cards. This Fujifilm SmartMedia holds a whopping 4 MB… and that little blue SD card is 64 MB.

SmartMedia launched in 1995 as a “solid-state floppy disk,” topped out at 128 MB, and then quietly disappeared in the early 2000s. Another chapter in the short, weird history of digital storage.

Solid state drives are fast and awesome for everyd Solid state drives are fast and awesome for everyday work—but for backup, don’t sleep on traditional magnetic hard drives. They’re affordable, great for large archives, and a perfect partner to SSDs.

Follow the 3-2-1 rule: keep 3 copies of your important data, on 2 different types of storage (like SSD + spinning hard drive), with 1 copy off-site or in the cloud. Your future self will thank you when something fails.
